Description
Yanmar temperature switch 106°C – 127610-91360
The genuine Yanmar temperature switch 127610-91360 is a thermal protection switch for various Yanmar marine diesel engines. The switch is designed to activate the temperature alarm when the engine cooling system reaches the switching temperature of 106°C.
Reliable temperature protection is important for detecting engine overheating in time. When the cooling water temperature rises too high, the electrical switching state changes, allowing the connected alarm system to warn the operator. This makes it possible to take timely action to limit potential engine damage.
Technical specifications
Brand: Yanmar
Product type: Temperature switch
Switching temperature: 106°C
Switching tolerance: ±3°C
Function: Activation of the cooling water temperature alarm
Application: Temperature protection for marine diesel engines
Engine series: GM, HM, CX and CH
Suitable for Yanmar marine engines
This temperature switch is listed in the parts catalogues for the following Yanmar marine diesel engines, among others:
Suitable for:
Yanmar 2GMF
Yanmar 3GMF
Yanmar 3HMF
Yanmar 6CX80
Yanmar 6CXA-GT
Yanmar 6CX-GTYE
Yanmar 6CH-STR
The temperature switch is also used in other CX and CH engine versions. Exact compatibility depends on the engine variant and the cooling system used.
Before ordering, check the exact engine type, specified switching temperature and existing component. Different temperature switches may be used even within the same engine series.
How the temperature switch works
The temperature switch responds to the temperature of the cooling system. When the temperature reaches the specified switching value, the electrical contact changes state. This allows the connected temperature alarm to be activated.
Depending on the engine installation, the warning may consist of an indicator light, an audible buzzer or a combination of both on the instrument panel.
The temperature switch is designed to activate an alarm signal, not to continuously display the cooling water temperature. A separate temperature sender can be used for an analogue or digital temperature display.
Why is temperature protection important?
A marine diesel engine continuously generates heat during operation. The cooling system removes this heat to prevent the engine from overheating.
When the cooling system is not functioning properly, the engine temperature may rise too high. Possible causes include:
Insufficient cooling water supply: A blocked water intake or closed seacock.
Clogged seawater strainer: Restricted seawater flow.
Damaged impeller: Insufficient seawater circulation.
Faulty thermostat: Problems regulating the cooling water flow.
Blockage: Restricted flow in the cooling system.
The temperature switch helps detect these problems in time when they cause excessive temperatures. The switch does not resolve the cooling problem itself but is an important part of the warning system.
Switching temperature of 106°C
This version has a nominal switching temperature of 106°C. The correct switching temperature depends on the engine type and cooling system configuration.
Yanmar also uses temperature switches with lower switching temperatures for various engines. A 106°C switch must therefore not be used to replace a version with a different switching temperature without first checking compatibility.
When should the temperature switch be replaced?
A faulty temperature switch may prevent the temperature alarm from activating when the engine overheats. A defective electrical contact may also cause false or unreliable alarm signals.
If the temperature alarm system malfunctions, the temperature switch, electrical wiring, connections and instrument panel should be inspected.
If testing shows that the switch no longer operates at the specified temperature or is damaged, it must be replaced.
Installation and replacement
Before installation, check that the new temperature switch matches the specified version for the engine. Pay attention to the switching temperature, electrical connection and mechanical fit.
Only carry out work on the cooling system when the engine has cooled down sufficiently. Install the new temperature switch according to Yanmar’s maintenance instructions.
After installation, check that the connection is watertight and that the temperature alarm system functions according to the specified test procedure.
Important considerations
The correct temperature switch is not determined solely by the engine type. The cooling system configuration and specified switching temperature are also important.
If in doubt, check the parts information for the relevant Yanmar engine. Temperature switches that look similar may have different electrical characteristics and switching temperatures.
