Starters

Combustion engines are, of course, wonderful inventions. They literally keep our lives going. But when it comes to vehicles – like cars, motorbikes and, yes, ships – you have to be able to get such a machine going. And that’s what starters were invented for! It is, so to speak, the little cog that sets all the bigger ones in motion. The starter is driven by the battery and triggers the combustion engine. So the part is indispensable for sailing! At AB Marine Service, you can find the best starters. Is yours in need of replacement or could it work a tad better in your opinion? Then take a quick look and make your choice!

Types of starters

At AB Marine Service, we distinguish between three types of starter motors. First, there is the one for inboard engines. In this category, you will find the best starters and related parts from the leading brands. The same applies, of course, to the outboard models made for outboard engines and jet skis. In addition, we have a dynastarter. This is a combination of a starter and an alternator in one. They are among the first starters, most of which you find on older and smaller engines today.

Problems with starters

Some parts you soon take for granted. This can lead to them needing replacement sooner than usual. Starters are not routinely included in servicing and are often only accessible with difficulty. So, over time, due to corrosion, moisture and lack of service, the chances of something going wrong with this part are high. If this is the case, it is important to know what you can do yourself to fix the problem.

For example, you may hear a click without the starter turning. That probably means something is wrong in the wiring to the electric motor. If the component is running but very slowly, then your battery is possibly the culprit. At the end of the day, the current you supply must also return, so check your ground cables for corrosion, among other things. Remove them, clean them, sand them and then grease them. Is it running correctly but the engine does not kick in? If so, it is not because of poor maintenance of your starter, but because of a fuel problem. Need more info?
