<h2><a name=”python-drive”></a>What is a Python Drive?</h2>

Jachten, sloepen én werkschepen functioneren optimaal wanneer ze zijn uitgerust met een Python-Drive. This complete drive system for vessels of all shapes and sizes significantly increases your boating pleasure. You no longer have to align your motor to the propeller shaft every so often, and undesirable axial drive reactions between the motor and the propeller shaft are eliminated. That’s why you experience a vibration-free drive of between 10 and 1000 hp! You can read more about how the Python-Drive works below.

<h2>How do I calculate the shaft length?</h2>

It is common for the propeller shaft and gearbox shaft not to be parallel to each other – see the drawing below.

In that case, there is a minimum and a maximum distance between the two parts. Measure them both and use the average of the distances as a starting point for the shaft length. Moreover, do you notice a deviation in distance between the left and right sides of the alignment? So measure those as well and use the average of both results. Ideally, the two homokinetic joints make a more or less equal angle.

<h2>Under which angle can I install the Python Drive?</h2>

In a homo-kinetic system like the Python-Drive, a 0º angle is not useful. This is because the balls then do not roll back and forth and are thus not lubricated. The pressure points in the ball path then lead to material fatigue and cause pitting and overloading. Therefore, a minimum angle of 1.5º is recommended.

In the overview above, you can see exactly how big the angle per homokinete is allowed to be versus the RPM. The maximum angular difference per homokinete may be a maximum of 8º per side for the P30 to P140, i.e. 16º in total and a maximum of 8º in total for the P200 to P1025.

<h2>Which Python-Drive do I need?</h2>

This depends on a number of factors. Consider the type of ship wall, but also the type of vessel: you will need a different model for a pleasure yacht than for a commercial barge. You also need to know the horsepower and maximum rpm of your engine and the gear ratio of your gearbox.
