Seawater resistant brass (CR)

Our fitting products are made of dezincification-free brass. This is also known as DeZincification Resistant Brass or CR Brass. They are made from a special alloy: CW602N and CB752S. Standard brass corrodes between 0.05 and 0.2 mm per year, and in the case of dezincification-free brass less than 0.02 mm. Then the choice is easy!

Seal

Make sure you use the right seal when installing. For sealing between the CR brass parts we recommend Loctite 542 up to ¾ inch (26.9 mm). Up to 3 inches (88.9 mm) Loctite 572 is the best threadlocker.

What size screw nipple do I need?

Use the conversion table below to find the right size for your screw nipples. That way you can be sure to order the right product right away.

N.B.: It does not work to measure the diameter of e.g. your pipe or through-hull yourself and then convert the size in inches to millimetres. Then you end up with different sizes.

What exactly is brass fitting?

Brass fittings are used when installing your boat’s water drainage and supply system. The material has good corrosion resistance, making it suitable for applications below the water line. What is a through-hull?

A through-hull is used to draw in or discharge sanitary or flushing water. Through-hulls below the water line should always be closed with a ball valve for safety, so that you don’t get into trouble due to e.g. a hose rupture.

Which through-hull do I need?

• There is a choice of different brass through-hulls:
• Flushed: smooth finish without water resistance
• Convex: suitable for visible work above the waterline
• Convex with hose connector: directly connect a hose without a valve. Do not use below the waterline.
• Conical: simple and economical. Suitable for most applications.

What is the purpose of a brass water scoop?

A brass water scoop is a grid and a skin passage in one. These are used to draw in outside water for your sanitary facilities, deck wash pump or impeller pump for engine cooling. N.B.: Never use a connection that is smaller than your impeller pump connection for the size of your impeller pump.

What do you use a brass strainer for?

A brass strainer can be placed before of or over an intake point. This prevents dirt from getting into your through-hull, for example. Of course, you can also use a brass strainer as a ventilation grille.
