What is a ship’s fuse?

Simply put, a fuse is meant to cut off the current in case of a short circuit. It takes place when the insulation of your electrical wires fails and current moves in the wrong direction. A common consequence of this is short circuits and, especially when the wires involved make contact with other materials, fire.

In this story, a fuse acts as the off switch of your power supply. This part contains a melting wire of silver, copper or an alloy of the latter. If the current rises too high due to overload or short circuit, this wire will melt and break, interrupting the current and causing no further damage.

Which fuse do I need?

To protect the on-board current and voltage , you need a fuse that has a slightly higher peak current value than that of the power system. Want to fuse a specific device? Be sure to then refer to the manual to find out the fuse value.

Are you going to replace a fuse? Then the maximum current and size of the new one should be the same as the old one. For help making a choice, you can always contact us.
