Description
PSS Shaft Seal Water-lubricated 70x108mm. The environmentally friendly alternative to your leaking grease-lubricated propeller shaft bearing.
How does it work:
Free floating seals, duo cone seals or toric seals, they all work on the same principle.
The sealing surface is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless-steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange
The stationary carbon flange is attached to a heavy duty silicone bellow which is attached to the vessel’s stern tube (shaft log), with 316SS hose clamps.
This compression (pre-load) maintains constant contact between the two mating faces of the stainless-steel rotor and carbon flange.
With this water-lubricated 70x108mm PSS Shaft Seal a perfect watertight connection for your propeller shaft system is created.
Tolerance:
The carbon flange is over-bored to the shaft diameter allowing it to “float” around the shaft and thus compensate for most misalignment and vibration from the drive-line.
The stainless-steel rotor is sealed to the shaft by two O-rings that are recessed into the bore of the rotor.
These O-rings rotate with the shaft and the stainless-steel rotor, and therefore do not experience wear during operation.
Temperature Limits: -25 °C to +220 °C
Pressure limits: 2.75 BAR
Shaft RPM limits: 10,000 RPM
Material of bellows: Cast silicone / Polyester reinforced fibre
Tip: Grease-lubricated propeller shaft installations can easily be converted to water-lubricated installations.
Mount the gland thruster upside down on the inner gland and mount the PSS bellows on top.
Benefits at a glance:
- Quick and easy installation.
- Compact design.
- Reduced maintenance to a minimum.
- Effective functionality.
- Long trouble free life.
- Excellent solution for repowering.
As a cheaper alternative, we can also offer you the stuffybox but please note that it requires annual maintenance!
