The standard filter elements are equipped with two different filter media. The external filter medium has a special composition that allows the water droplets to be collected and separated on the inner, hydrophobic filter medium. The separated water collects in the lower part of the filter bowl.
The fuel circulation quantity in modern engines is much higher than the actual fuel consumption of the engine itself. The service life of the filter element can be significantly extended by connecting the fuel return line to the filter, as the already cleaned fuel is reused and only small amounts of fresh fuel are required from the tank.
