Alternator charge controller

Charging Lithium batteries with a standard alternator requires intelligent regulation. Without additional protection, an alternator can become overloaded or the batteries can be improperly charged under heavy load. Overheating can also occur at high temperatures or during prolonged use at idle speeds. There are two commonly used solutions to ensure the correct charging voltage and a longer battery lifespan:

Alternator with external charge controller
With an external controller such as the Mastervolt Alpha Pro Charge Controller, the alternator is adjusted for optimal charging. The full power of the alternator remains available, and the charging profile is intelligently controlled for the batteries. This charge controller maximizes the use of the alternator and prevents damage to the starting battery or other applications.

DC/DC battery charger (smart)
A DC/DC charger is placed between the alternator and the batteries. It determines how much current is allowed to pass and can be set with a maximum output or voltage. Multiple chargers can be used in parallel to achieve more power.

Which option to choose?

• Choose an external charge controller if you want to maximize the power of your existing alternator and are looking for the perfect solution for various applications.
