Water-lubricated propeller shaft seal

Instead of using grease, you can choose a propeller shaft seal that is water-lubricated. The main reason is that the grease applied to the original system leaks into the water, which is hugely damaging to the environment. The outer gland, seal and bearings of your propeller shaft need to be greased considerably often, which only increases the consumption of grease.

Fortunately, it is relatively easy to make your propeller shaft seal water-lubricated. For that, you will find three systems at AB Marine Service. To use it, you must first mount the gland thruster of the inner bearing inverted on the inner gland of your propeller shaft seal.

• Stuffybox EVO: An updated version of a classic propeller shaft seal that features an inlet port that provides circulation and improves cooling, making the seal last longer.

Tip for assembly: if you use a grease-lubricated propeller shaft with grease cord, first remove this grease cord. Then turn the grease cord holder over and seal it with a gasket paper. Then mount the Stuffy box on the smooth side of the holder.
